This 1920s heritage home stood strong through the
Christchurch earthquakes — and with care, craftsmanship, and deep technical
expertise, it’s now better than ever.
Lovingly restored and structurally upgraded, the home was
stripped back to its bare bones. Nearly all fittings, linings, and even the
roof were removed. Following extensive stabilisation works, much of the ground
floor was excavated to allow for poured in-situ concrete shear walls,
while the hillside was carefully reclaimed to extend the usable floor area.
This was a renovation that demanded the structural thinking
of commercial construction — underpinning, seismic strengthening, portal
frames — delivered with the finesse and detail of a heritage restoration.
We brought in concrete, steel, and timber engineering solutions that not only
met today’s standards, but respected the original design intent.
Throughout, meticulous care was taken to ensure every
recreated element — from internal finishes to the overall character — remained
true to the home's 1920s origins, but executed to a modern, compliant standard.
The result speaks for itself:
This project is a testament to what Paul Reed Homes brings to every challenge — deep knowledge, imaginative thinking, and the ability to deliver both engineering excellence and timeless charm.
