How to get million dollar home quality for a fraction of the budget

Experienced Christchurch Builder, Paul Reed, completes new home build that capitalises on its’ prime hillside location

With the original 1930’s bungalow a write off after the Christchurch earthquakes a full replacement house was constructed on the original site. Located at the foothills of the Port Hills in the suburb of Hillsborough, this contemporary-modern family home was a challenging build requiring highly engineered foundations cut into the hillside. The new home capitalises on its’ prime hillside location; enormous picture windows frame the unobstructed views across the city and beyond to the Southern Alps.

Step back in time with Paul as he takes you through this completed 1930s Replica Bungalow

Christchurch career professional builder Paul Reed and his team have created something truly outstanding with this new home build.

At first glance you’d be forgiven for thinking this home was a long standing fixture on its’ busy Christchurch street. Similar bungalows on either side suggest that the dwelling is well established, just undergoing a recent cosmetic makeover with a lick of paint freshening up its exterior. However this bungalow is circa 2016, a replica of the original 1930s bungalow that once stood in its place. The original home suffered irreparable damage during the Christchurch earthquakes and the owner feared her new home would lose the character and charm of the old house. Paul Reed Homes has done a masterful job blending the old and the new. The stunning coloured lead glass windows have been carefully repaired, restored and re-glazed into double glazed units. The old claw foot bath lovingly refurbished to sit pride of place in the main bathroom. New ceiling roses encircle the pendant lighting in the main living areas and bedrooms. The clever use of modern design sees an ensuite added off the master bedroom and plenty of storage added with built in robes in the bedrooms and linen cupboard in the hallway. Keeping in style of the original home, picture rails have been installed in perfect alignment with window sashes. The warm wood wall panelling with a dado rail along the top in entry and hallway shows the craftsmanship and attention to detail that has been put into this home. The end result is a testament to career professional builder Paul Reed and his team. Check out the video below.
